God is Able, and God is Good

2 Chronicles 20:12 O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.??? ESV

Our lives are made up of different roles and responsibilities; we are Moms, Dads, Business owners or coworkers. Each and every one of us has a role and purpose and we can identify it with this verse in whatever role we are in. The bible makes it clear that we are to “seek first the kingdom of God and that all things will be added unto us.??? Mathew 6:33. It does not say when we are only at our business or when we are at church or wherever we are, but to simply “seek first His kingdom and all things will be added unto us.???

So, who is it that we need to have God execute judgment on and who are we powerless against? Again, it depends on our role and our responsibilities. Our roles are different depending on the day, but our God is the same and how we deal with our life in our role is the same. Let’s say we own our business and we are currently facing many difficult decisions. We mentally acknowledge that we need help and that we have no idea what to do. We are a Christian and know that we are to pray and ask God for His help, and then what do we do? We are to wait patiently on Him knowing that He is in ultimate control and that He will resolve the problem according to His will and His purpose. So our role was then to surrender to the Lord in prayer and to wait; to wait for His prompting and His direction. Our role is not to get spontaneously emotional and upset, it’s not to control the situation and figure out how to fix it, remember we really have no idea what is best. We only have God and His infinite wisdom to guide us and lead us.

So what does that look like exactly? Well every circumstance is different and God seems to never deal with things in the same manner. He usually does it in such a way that we least expect Him to do it. That is so He gets the Glory and not us. In 2 Chronicles 20, God is dealing with Jehoshaphat, the King and ruler over God’s business, Jerusalem. This is the same way He will deal with us in our business; after all it is His business, right? Jehoshaphat was scared and did not understand what to do. Instead of jumping in, reacting and messing things up, he stopped and sought the Lord. He also asked others around Him to do the same and to fast alongside of him to seek Gods direction. He acknowledges God is good and ruler over all, he was reminded of God and His promises to him. Then the spirit fell upon Jehoshaphat and the others around Him and told him not to fear. God then showed Him exactly what to do; He told him the battle is not Jehoshaphat’s but Gods. We have to acknowledge the same as Jehoshaphat did, that we do not always know what to do in situations or circumstances. Our past is our past, and it’s not our present, nor is it our future. We cannot lean on the fact of how we used to have done things in the past whether it was in our flesh or in the spirit. We have to recognize that this is Gods battle and not ours; we are only to do as He instructs us to do.

If we are currently not hearing from God it could be because we have not surrendered our complete will, our past, our thoughts, or our ways onto Him. We still think we are the one controlling our destiny and that this is our own battle and not Gods. As a child of God we are His property, we are bought with His blood , and we are no longer responsible for any outcome. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that, “God works all things out for the good of those who are called according to His purpose???. So, if God says that everything that is taking place right now in your life is for the good, then trust Him in that. When Daniel was awaiting the guards to take him to the lion’s den, I am sure he was a little nervous, but he also knew that his God would work all things out for His good and if you know the story, He surely did. If you’re a child of Jesus rejoice when things are hard and know that God is drawing you closer to him and is in control. Do not fight Him, let go and let Him have His perfect way in your life today. Have eyes to see Him at work and ears to hear Him speaking to your heart and then be obedient in whatever He asks of you. I promise in the end your joy will be overflowing and words will not be able to describe your love for Jesus and how you feel. God is able and God is good!
