One of my heroes of the faith has been George Mueller. In his autobiography he shares with us his story of what a Christian life looks like when we fully put our trust in God. What makes his story so great and such a blessing to me is that he proves without a shadow of doubt that our God is real. I to have used his understanding of total surrender and I to can testify that there is no mistaking that everything the Bible says about God is true. As a Christian we are never promised life will be easy, actually on the contrary life as a Christian will be very difficult. This world is full of sin and there are a lot of people in pain that are making impulsive decisions based off their understanding of their own reality. Without God, they are led to do things in their own efforts. Their life is evidently marked by their control or lack of control, which ultimately leads them to affect everyone around them. Many times these people are divinely brought into our lives by God, so that we can show them the love of Christ and be a light to their darkness. If our life is not completely surrendered to God, we too will have the same pain and make the same decisions that others are making without knowing God.
George Mueller was called by God to help orphans; he was also called not to ask anyone for help in regards to money and financing his operation. He made a covenant with God that he would fully trust God to answer all his prayers according to Gods timing and perfect will. Every need of Mueller’s would be brought before God and not to man. He only moved and acted according to Gods leading. He waited patiently on God and did not move until God showed up; his life was a reflection of Jesus and impacted everyone around him for good. He lived a life that had divine power, He was used as an example of what a Christian life is to look like. He was loving, kind, and gentle and realized he was destined to bring God Glory in all he did. I would recommend anyone who wants to live their life in total surrender to God to read his autobiography.
Below is a transcript from his book of what a balanced surrendered life looks like. Be Blessed
If anyone desires to live a life of faith and trust in God he must:
- Not merely say he trusts in God but must really do so. Often individuals profess to trust in God, but they embrace every opportunity where they may directly or indirectly tell someone about their need. I do not say it is wrong to make known our financial situation, but it hardly displays trust in God to expose our needs for the sake of getting other people to help us. God will take us at our word. If we do trust in Him, we must be satisfied to stand with Him alone.
- The individual who desires to live this way must be content whether he is rich or poor. He must be willing to live in abundance or in poverty. He must be willing to leave this world without any possessions.
- He must be willing to take the money in Gods way, not merely in large sums, but in small. Many times I have had a single shilling given to me. To have refused such tokens of Christian love would have been ungracious.
- He must be willing to live as the Lords steward. If anyone does not give out of the blessings which the Lord gives to him, then the lord, who influences the hearts of His children to give, would soon cause those channels to be dried up. My good income increased even more when I determined that, by Gods help, His poor and His work would be helped by my money. From that time on, the Lord was pleased to entrust me with more.
